How To Greet Others In English?

When you meet anybody you have to use certain words to convey your feelings for that person. In Islam people normally start with Aslam-o-Alaikum. English speakers use other expressions while meeting others.



You may like to use following phrases:

1. Greetings (formal)    

a. Good morning (afternoon, evening, night etc)
b. Hello, I’m……(Ejaz)
c. How’s everything going on….
d. How do you do?
e. Hello, how are you?

2. Greetings (informal)

a. Hi, what’s up…
b. Hi, how are you..?
c. Hello…(Arshad)
d. What’s up?

3. Greetings (meeting after long time)

a. It’s a pleasure to see you again.
b. It’s been such a long time….
c. It’s been ages since we last met….
d. I’m so happy to see you….

Sample Dialogue 1

A: Hi, what’s up?
B: Hello, nothing special, you?

Sample Dialogue 2

A: Hello, how are you?
B: Hi, fine thanks how do you do?

Sample Dialogue 3

A: It’s been ages since we met, where have you been?
B: Yeh, I was abroad, how is life?
