How To Avoid Silence During Conversation?

During your conversation at times it happens that you don’t know what to say. Maybe you can’t find the right words to express yourself or the other person is not clear to you. Similarly a silence may occur when you don’t have anything else to say about the topic.



You may make use of following expressions to fill up the silence:

1. When You Can’t Find The Words
 
 a. You see…….actually…..
 b. Well, as far as I’m concerned…….
 c. So…….the thing is…….
 d. Ok…to the best of knowledge……..
 e. Right….ah…..according to my point of view…..
 f. uh…….ummmmm….hhmmmmm….. (Sounds)
 
 2. When You Can’t Understand Others
 
 a. Beg your pardon…….
 b. Pardon please……
 c. Sorry! Could you repeat that please……
 d. Sorry I couldn’t get you…….
 e. I don’t understand….could you come again…..
 
 3. When You Want To Change The Topic
 
 a. Okay…..lets talk something else…
 b. Can we change the topic please?.......
 c. Anyway…..I was saying….
 d. Right, back to our main topic…….
